Georgia HypnoBirthing®
Class Information
Q: What is hypnosis?
A:
While it might sound unbelievable, many people experience hypnosis on a
daily basis. Have you ever been driving in your car, and then all of
the sudden realize you are at your destination without really thinking
about it or remembering your drive? Have you ever “zoned out” in front
of a fire and heard someone talking to you but just couldn’t force
yourself to listen? Those are a few examples of hypnosis, or what it’s
like to be hypnotized. You are not in a trance or a deep sleep, but
rather a heightened state of awareness where you are only allowing
yourself to concentrate on very specific things (i.e. your thoughts
while driving or the crackling warmth of the fire.)
Most
people think hypnosis is an involuntary experience; something that is
"done" to someone to manipulate their behavior. That couldn’t be
further from the truth! There is no such thing as involuntary hypnosis.
Hypnosis is only possible when the participant willingly chooses it.
"We believe that every
woman has within her the
power to call upon her natural instincts to
bring
about the best possible birthing for her baby
and herself"
-Marie F. Mongan
Q: What will I/we learn in class? Who attends the class?
A:
This is a comprehensive childbirth preparation course. In class, you will learn every aspect of
childbirth – from the onset of labor through birth and bonding with
your baby. You will watch birth videos, practice relaxation techniques,
practice self-hypnosis, go over labor/birthing positions, and more! The class is designed for the birthing mother and her husband or birthing companion.
Q: What do I need for class?
A: Simply come dressed in comfortable
clothes (I often wear yoga pants & a t-shirt) and bring an open
heart and mind. All other papers will be provided for you.
